I personally don't go for certifications because it feels like a pyramid scheme, an additional cost, bi-yearly or yearly re-certification fee, and so many hoops to jump through. Some modalities really are complex that they may need it, but some aren't. I respect and understand the value of staying close to the original model as training intended, but if I follow the training I paid and took carefully, and practice the model I'm getting the results. Yes, consultations are helpful as many do have questions on certain aspects of using a new model. So many may need it, but I didn't need certifications to feel skilled at a model. Also, those in private practice may find it helpful to promote themselves as they're certified in a modality. Because I worked either in a community mental health setting or managed care agency, there was no need to promote myself as we were flooded with clients that need help.
